back in 2007, for my graphic design II class i had to create my first portfolio website. the whole project involved a lot of self-teaching and a lot of blind testing, so i got a good workout from the whole experience. at this time i had no knowledge of CSS or style sheets, so the style codes were handwritten into the top of every single page and every individual html page was basically built from the ground up. since then i have learned a lot, but i am very thankful for putting myself through that process because without that i wouldn't have a strong html foundation, nor the desire to (sometimes) do things the hard way.
